Oblong 4to (220 x 280mm.), 105 glossy silver prints (60 x 90mm., or the reverse), mounted on card mounts, recto and verso, occasional ink captions on the mounts, contemporary coarse cream cloth, with wood and leather clasp and catch


Hermann Consten (1878-1957), was a political agent, traveller and writer who became an expert on Asia, and Mongolia in particular, first travelling there in 1910 to establish trade relations with Germany. In the 1930s he moved to Beijing and returned to Germany in 1950 after the proclamation of the People's Republic of China.
