In this genre painting, Louis Rossignon captures a typical moment on the Parisian streets during the early 19th century. The shops and restaurants in the background can be identified as La Perle de France and Le Douix - two of the establishments situated on the promenade that surrounded the old Palais Royal, and that were frequented by fashionable members of society. A small group of Savoyards often stationed themselves nearby, in the hope of receiving a few coins in return for creating amusement.
