A BLACK STONE STELE OF VISHNU, NORTHEASTERN INDIA, PALA PERIOD, LATE 11TH/12TH CENTURY


the four-armed deity standing in sampada holding his four attributes including the discus, conch, mace and lotus, wearing a striated dhoti secured at the waist with a jeweled girdle, adorned with elaborate jewelry and a tall conical headdress, flanked at the sides by Bhudevi who holds a lotus and Shridevi who plays the vina, surrounded by roundels depicting the ten avatars of Vishnu and crowned at the top with a kirttimukha

Overall: 92cm. high, 40.5cm. wide, 14cm. deep
