Description

XENOPHON

Απαντα... opera, quae quidem graece extant, omnia [edited by Sébastien Châteillon]. Basel: Michael Isengrin, [c. 1545]

bound in 2 volumes, 8vo (171 x 108mm.), woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut initials, text in Greek, old Italian vellum, lacking ties

Châteillon (or Castellio) was professor of Greek at Basel and edited and translated several Greek texts for publication, including Homer, Herodotus and Thucydides. He produced this text for the printer Brylinger, first appearing in 1545, closely followed by numerous other Basel editions in the 1550s and 1560s, including the present undated edition. (Several of these editions contain parallel text in Greek and Latin, or just Latin; the present edition contains the original Greek.)
