FIRST EDITION, 10 original parts, oblong folio (382 x 504mm.), lithographed title, 60 plates of views by F. Kaiser after Mayr, all finely coloured by a contemporary hand, some lettering heightened in gold, 10 leaves of parallel text in German and French, original pictorial wrappers with hand-coloured border decorations, housed in a half vellum portfolio, spotting to text, minor repairs or tears (mostly to wrappers)
A FINE COPY OF THE RARE HAND-COLOURED ISSUE IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS. Mayr accompanied Archduke Maximilian of Bavaria on his travels through Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Malta in 1838.
