TREATY OF VERSAILLES
CONDITIONS DE PAIX. CONDITIONS OF PEACE. [PARIS, MAY 1919]
folio (339 x 220mm.), parallel text in French and English, 4 large folding colour maps showing new boundaries, half red morocco, uncut, red ink stamp of the Supreme War Council, British Section, Versailles, dated 9 May 1919, occasional light soiling at page edges, a few small creases or tears to maps
This volume contains the provisional conditions of peace as drawn up at Versailles after six months of negotiations following the armistice which ended the First World War; it took more than a month to persuade the German authorities to sign their agreement as the treaty contained punitive clauses on reparation and loss of territory. The official signing took place on 28 June 1919.
