WILLIAM III

LETTER SIGNED, TO HEERE [HENRICK] VAN BLEYSWYCK

acknowledging van Bleyswyck's congratulations for his victory at the Battle of the Boyne and appointment of Barthout van Slingelandt as secretary to the State Council of the United Provinces, in Dutch, 1 page, 8vo, "Int Leger voor Lemmerick" [with the army before Limerick], integral blank, wrapper with two red wax seal impressions bearing the royal arms, 24 August 1690

A LETTER WRITTEN ON CAMPAIGN IN IRELAND SIX WEEKS AFTER THE BATTLE OF THE BOYNE. William was besieging Limerick, where the Jacobite army had retreated after their defeat at the Boyne. Limerick withstood an assault later in August 1690 and was not taken by Williamite forces until October 1691. The King's correspondent, Hendrick van Bleyswyck, was Lord Mayor of Delft and the father-in-law of Barthout van Slingelandt, who was Lord Mayor of Dordrecht.
