A CAMPAIGN LETTER WRITTEN AT A TURNING POINT IN THE NINE YEARS WAR. The 1695 campaign in Flanders was dominated by the siege of Namur, a strategically placed citadel between the Sambre and the Meuse which had been taken by the French in 1692. The Allies mounted a series of assaults in late August, and the garrison finally surrendered on 4 September.
