Description
MACDONALD, JAMES RAMSAY
AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, TO SIR RONALD STORRS
expressing his confidence in him as newly appointed Governor of Cyprus ("...I am sure you would have liked to stay in Jerusalem but you know Cyprus well & I hope you will find a good scope for your energies & ideas..."), 1 page, 8vo, headed stationery of The Hillocks, Lossiemouth, 23 August 1926
Cyprus had been declared a Crown Colony in 1925, and the island was governed by Storrs (1881-1955) from 1926-32. His governorship was marked by burgeoning demonstrations in favour of enosis (union with Greece) from the majority Greek population.
