BELL, GERTRUDE
AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, TO SIR FRANK SWETTENHAM
sending him confidential views ("...But be silent. These things are not known..."), about Balfour’s Anglo-Japanese Agreement of 1905 and the Entente Cordial of 1903-1904, accusing British negotiators of weakness (“…every time they said give, we gave…”) and a lack of support for imperial interests, 7 pages, 8vo, headed stationery of 95 Sloane Street, [c. 1904]
Sir Frank Swettenham (1850-1946) was the first Resident General of the Federated Malay States. Bell visited Swettenham in Singapore in 1903 and the two continued correspondence until 1909.
