CATHERINE II, OF RUSSIA, (CATHERINE "THE GREAT")

LETTER SIGNED ("EKATERINA"), TO FERDINAND IV, KING OF NAPLES,

congratulating his consort, Queen Maria Carolina, on the birth of a son on 19 August, signed at the end in Russian ("your dear sister, Catherine"), 2 pages, folio, integral blank, with address wrapper bearing Catherine's papered seal, St Petersburg, 3 October 1777

The prince whose birth is celebrated in this letter was the future Francesco I, King of the Kingdom of The Two Sicilies from 1825 until 1830. Maria Carolina was the daughter of Maria Theresa of Austria and the sister of Marie Antoinette.
