A COLLECTION OF LETTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHS, INCLUDING:


i) Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, Duke of. Autograph letter signed (“W”), as Prime Minister, to his secretary Drummond, requesting a messenger, 1 page, 8vo, Buckinghamshire, 8 December 1829;


ii) Derby, Edward Smith-Stanley, Earl of. Autograph letter signed (“Stanley”), to the Marquis of Westmeath, discussing the dissolution of Peel’s administration and its successor, 4 pages, 8vo, Carlton Gardens, 9 April 1835;


iii) Disraeli, Benjamin. Autograph letter signed (“B Disraeli”), to J Kirk, inviting communication “on the subject of our last conversation”, 3 pages, 8vo, marked Private, 3 July 1849;


iv) Palmerston, Henry John Temple, Viscount. Document signed, as Prime Minister, passport document (“…all those whom it may concern to allow Mr Charles John Shoppee and Mr George Noke travelling on the Continent, to pass freely without let or hindrance…”), 1 page, folio, with engraved vignettes at head and foot, stamps on both sides, Foreign Office, 25 August 1857;


v) Gladstone, William Ewart. Autograph letter signed, to Geo. Bentley (publisher), thanking him for “the two works of which you have been so kind as to send me copies”, and referring to his defeat by Disraeli in the 1874 election (“…Their titles promise much though diverse interest: and recent events will I hope enable me soon to profit by becoming acquainted with their contents…”), 2 pages, 8vo, integral blank, 11 Carlton House Terrace, 26 February 1874;


vi) Baldwin, Stanley. Typed letter signed, to Lord Shuttleworth, expressing his regret at his resignation of “in the near future the office of H.M. Lieutenant for the County of Lancaster”, 1 side, 4to, 10 Downing Street headed stationery, 14 February 1928, [with:] facsimile ALS concerning the continuity of government;
