A jewelled silver-gilt, lapis lazuli and enamel model of an ostrich, Hermann Böhm, Vienna, circa 1880
the colourfully-enamelled head on a long neck, surmounted by a crown of seed pearls, a string of pearls attached to either side of the opened enamel beak, the silver-gilt collar enamelled with masks and hung with pearls and emeralds in Renaissance revival mounts, the raised wings and tail brightly enamelled in the colours of the rainbow, the detachable lid crowned by a winged and crowned putto sitting on a stool, the bird's naturalistically-enamelled feet resting on a circular base applied with a snail, a lizard, a stag-beetle and a frog in enamel, lapis lazuli sides, the footrim further enamelled with insects and amphibiae and applied with jewels, maker's mark, post-1872 Vienna standard mark
