Description

2012 Super WBA Super Welterweight Championship Belt Presented To Floyd Mayweather After Defeating Miquel Cotto On May 5, 2012 (WBC LOA, Photomatched)

Former boxing champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. His 50-0 record with 27 knockouts is astounding and he won 15 world titles across five different weight classes – including light middleweight, welterweight, light welterweight, lightweight and super featherweight. One of his bouts was fought on May 5th, 2012 when Mayweather, who was the WBC Welterweight Champion battled WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico for the WBA Super and WBC Diamond Light Middleweight titles.

The fight took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and was billed as “Ring Kings”. The battle between the two boxers had Mayweather controlling the fight in the early rounds, with Cotto rebounding in the middle rounds with Mayweather taking over in the later rounds – including a sharp uppercut in the 12th and final round that stunned Cotto, but Cotto was able to recover and finish the fight. The three judges awarded the bout to Mayweather via a unanimous decision with scores of 118-110, 117-110 and 117 -111 and thus Mayweather became the WBA Super Welterweight Champion.

Presented here is the very WBA Super Welterweight Champion belt that was presented to Mayweather immediately following his victory over Miguel Cotto on May 5th, 2012. This belt has been heavily construction and is approximately three feet long. There is a thick leather backing that features a circular globe emblem in the middle that is adorned with an eagle on top, along with two circular mirror plates on each side that also have eagles on the tops. The belt is covered with a red, white and blue bunting type material and has gold edging. The ends have nameplates, with one end having “WBA”, “SUPER” and “WBA”, while the opposite end has “ASOCIATION MUNDIAL DE BOXEO”. This belt is in good overall condition with some wear to the main eagle’s beak, as well as some minor scuffing to each circular mirror plate. This belt has been photo matched and authenticated by WBC Authentication (MP47037), who have provided a detailed two-page letter
