1996 Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight Worn Boxing Gloves Used During Summer Olympic Games - Including Fight Worn Hand Wraps (Craig Hamilton LOA)

Undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. had an unbelievable 50-0 professional record. Mayweather began his professional boxing journey with a TKO win against Robert Apodaca in Las Vegas in October of 1996, amassing 49 more wins capped off by a victory over mixed martial arts legend Conor McGregor in the Irish firebrand’s boxing debut. Mayweather came onto the boxing scene by making the 1996 US Olympic team, where he earned a bronze medal. Many believe he was robbed of a chance at gold when he lost controversially on points 10-9 during his semi-final bout against Bulgarian boxer Serarfim Todorov.

Mayweather, nevertheless, was able to parlay his performance in the 1996 Games to one of the best professional boxing careers of all-time. Offered here are a pair of boxing gloves used by Mayweather during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Mayweather faced four fighters, winning three of those matches. This is a wonderful opportunity to own match-worn items from his amateur career. These gloves are made of blue, white and black leather and were manufactured by Top Ten of Germany. On the backhands, each are labeled in black and red lettering of Top Ten with each wrist having a black leather Velcro clasp that is labeled “10 OZ” and “Boxing Glove approved 1995-97”. Each glove is marked “125” in black marker on the backhand. Also included with these gloves are two red cloth hand wraps with Velcro closings that when stretched out read “THIS SIDE DOWN”. These gloves display heavy wear at the point of impact consistent with fight use.

These items come with a full LOA from Craig R. Hamilton, who has determined that these were worn by Mayweather during one of his bouts in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Hamilton notes in his letter that “review of videos and still photographs revealed matching boxing gloves worn by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in his 1996 Olympic fights with Lorenzo Aragon and Serafim Todorov”. Hamilton also notes that “There is staining at the point of impact in red and blue. Mayweather, Jr. wore blue outfits in each fight and color from his own outfit could have stained his gloves. Aragon and Todorov both wore red shirts in their fights with Mayweather, Jr. which could account for the red staining on the gloves.”
