A pioneering postminimalist artist, Richard Tuttle is known for maintaining a wide-ranging practice that engages aspects of painting, drawing, sculpture, bookmaking, printmaking, and installation. His works often decontextualize form and material from their art historical precedents, and collapse boundaries between media. Tuttle’s commitment to experimentation has ensured his work relates to an expanse of conceptual and formal relationships, while remaining diligently concerned with addressing questions of scale, light, and systematic methods of viewing.
Recent solo exhibitions of Richard Tuttle’s work have been staged at Sperone Westwater, New York; Galleri Nicolai Wallner, Copenhagen; and Galerie Lena Bruning, Berlin. His work has been included in exhibitions at MoMa PS1, Long Island City; The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, St. Louis; and David Zwirner, New York.
Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art (the “SCA”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the SCA. As such, Sotheby’s will share the contact details for the winning bidders with the SCA so that they may be in touch directly post-sale.
