Nairy Baghramian's practice focuses on sculpture and installation, producing work that utilizes the language of architecture and the human form. Her work addresses temporal, spatial, and social relationships to language and history, while being responsive to contextual conditions and existing relationships to site. Drawing on a multiplicity of reference materials—including dance, theater, design, and fashion—Baghramian produces unlikely juxtapositions in material and scale, at once advancing and examining what it means to make a sculpture.
Recent solo exhibitions of Baghramian’s work include those at Marian Goodman Gallery, New York; Galerie Buchholz, Berlin; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Her work has been included in group shows at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco and Musée Theodore Monod d’Art Africaine, Senegal. Her work was recently included in Documenta 14, Kassel and the 2019 Venice Biennale.
