Tanya Aguiñiga’s years of studying art history, industrial design, and traditional modes of craft inform her multifaceted practice. Utilizing aspects of performance, installation, and fiber art, she engages the languages of activism and community-based public art to generate dialogues about identity, culture, and gender. Her collaborative approach to executing projects aims to assist museums and non-profits in the United States and Mexico in diversifying their audiences by connecting marginalized communities through participation.
Recent solo exhibitions of her work include those at Volume Gallery, Chicago; the Fowler Museum, Los Angeles; and the New Children’s Museum, San Diego. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Mesa Arts Center, Mesa, AZ; the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago; and The Future Perfect, New York.
