Josh Smith is a painter whose work brings together methods of collage, sculpture, and printmaking. He is known for his abstract monochromes and pieces incorporating his name. Smith’s work engages in a celebratory and prolific process of experimentation and refinement, upending the conventions of painting while simultaneously commanding a deep awareness of its history.
Recent solo exhibitions of Smith’s work include those at David Zwirner Gallery, New York; the New Museum, New York; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris. His work has been included in exhibitions at The Broad, Los Angeles; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
