Paulina Olowska’s realist paintings, drawings, and collages borrow widely from both Eastern European and American popular culture and art history. This cross-cultural frame of reference allows the work to occupy a distinctly contemporary conceptual space, while still speaking to a collective historical memory. Olowska’s performance work exhibits a similar breadth and depth, ranging from her early adaptation of Czech designer Karel Teige's typographic work, to her more recent stagings of collaborative performances and ballet.

Recent solo exhibitions of Olowska’s work include those at Metro Pictures, New York; Foksal Gallery Foundation, Warsaw; and the Tate Modern, London. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; Muzeum Susch, Zernez; and the 2018 edition of the Liverpool Biennial. She is slated to perform at the Art Institute of Chicago as part of the ongoing Iterations series.

Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art (the “SCA”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the SCA.
