Richard Rezac is known for object-based sculptures, typically abstract in form. Reliant on a deliberative process which allows for constant, ongoing redefinition, Rezac’s works are exercises in synthesis and simplification. He draws in part from emotive encounters with architecture, geometry, and the design elements closely associated with the Post-minimalist artists of the 1980s. Rezac’s choice of materials, including painted and natural wood, aluminum, and bronze, maintain a pristine appearance that belies their laborious, hand-wrought production process.
Recent solo exhibitions of Rezac’s work include those at the Renaissance Society, Chicago; Luhring Augustine, New York; and The Arts Club, Chicago. His work has been included in exhibitions at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Essex Street, New York; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art (the “SCA”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the SCA. As such, Sotheby’s will share the contact details for the winning bidders with the SCA so that they may be in touch directly post-sale.
