Elizabeth Neel’s paintings and sculptures meld architecture with the body and memory with action. Often drawn from anonymous images sourced on the internet, her works are excavations of lives both lived and unlived. Though arguably figurative works in their genesis, Neel’s paintings verge on pure abstraction, punctuated with a diverse array of materials including clay, wax, tape, and inkjet prints, yielding a tactile and almost sculptural finish.
Recent solo exhibitions of Elizabeth Neel’s works include those at Vielmetter, Los Angeles; Pilar Corrias, London; and Mary Boone, New York. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Leo Xu Projects, Shanghai; Lori Bookstein Fine Art, New York; and STUDIOLO, Zurich.
Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art (the “SCA”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the SCA. As such, Sotheby’s will share the contact details for the winning bidders with the SCA so that they may be in touch directly post-sale.
