Richard Hull is known for his quasi-figurative and architectural paintings and drawings, driven by his signature use of bold color and form. Early in his career, Hull was represented by Phyllis Kind Gallery, the primary dealer of many of Chicago’s legendary Imagist artists. His current work retains the buoyancy and energy of those influences, now expressed through sculptural forms mimicking portraits, busts, and vanity mirrors.
Recent solo exhibitions of Hull’s work include those at Western Exhibitions, Chicago; Bruno David Gallery, St. Louis; and Carrie Secrist Gallery, Chicago. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minneapolis; Ed Paschke Art Center, Chicago; and The Painting Center, New York.
Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art (the “SCA”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the SCA. As such, Sotheby’s will share the contact details for the winning bidders with the SCA so that they may be in touch directly post-sale.
