Italian, Rome or Naples, early 19th century | Intaglio with Ceres

This beautiful intaglio, which is in near pristine condition, with it's glassy surface polish resembles intaglios of mythological figures by the celebrated Neapolitan gem engraver Filippo Rega (1761-1833). Compare with the carnelian intaglio with a portrait of a Roman matrona by Rega in the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore (inv. no. 42.1082).
