Large 8vo (9 3/4 x 7 3/8 in.; 248 x 187 mm). Hand-colored frontispiece, illuminated dedication leaf, 39pp. text, 41 plates with captions and illustrated borders, original drawing by Ed Deming; some minor toning primarily to text leaves. Half brown morocco over brown cloth covered boards, gilt title to upper board, top edge gilt, dedication plate to front pastedown; upper joint weak but holding, rubbing to corners. In custom book box, cover gilt lettered with owner's name.
First and only edition, number 4 of 20 copies, privately printed by the author and presented to his friends. This copy was given to John Murgatroyd, whom McAleenan also thanks in his dedication. The diary of one of the "winter re-unions" of the author and his friends (Dr. Brooks, George Clifton, Ed. Deming, and others). "This hunt ... would be largely photographic," McAleenan writes. "Of late years, the camera has appealed to us more than the rifle" (p. 3).
