Sotheby's New York, Russian Art, 28 April 2006, lot 650
Acquired at the above sale by the present owner

Probably Paris, Galerie Devambez, Exposition des peintres et sculpteurs russes de Paris, 3-17 juin 1912, no.72, Station de cochers (Paris)

Probably Moscow and St Petersburg, Mir iskusstva, 1912, Station de cochers (1910)

This view of a staging post at the crossroads of rue Vaugirard and Avenue du Maine was painted from the window of the Tarkhovs' apartment in Montparnasse in 1910. In June 1911 the family left the city and moved to Orsay, the inscriptions of the two different addresses (Seine-et-Oise and Orsay) on the reverse indicate that the work must have been exhibited both before and after the move.

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by The Nicolas Tarkhoff Committee and will be included in the catalogue raisonné currently being prepared by the Committee. We would like to thank Guy Abot, director of the committee, for providing additional catalogue information.
