In composition and style, this painting by a follower of Gerard ter Borch recalls works from the artist's late career. The dog seated in the lower left corner compares closely to the one found in the lower corner of Gerard and Gesina ter Borch's Memorial Portrait of Moses ter Borch in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.1
