Maria Vicenta Solís Lasso de la Vega, Duchess of Fernán-Nuñez was born in Madrid in 1780, and was one of the richest ladies in Spain. Already the Duchess of Montellano y del Arco in her own right, she was married very young, in 1789, to Don Carlos Gutiérrez de los Ríos y Sarmiento, 1st Duke of Fernán-Nuñez (1780-1822) who became the Spanish Ambassador to England 1814-17. Goya painted likenesses of both sitters (both oil on canvas, 211 x 137 cm.; private collection, Madrid).1
