Mexico: widow of José Bernardo de Hogal, 1743

4to (202 x 150mm.), woodcut armorial at start of dedication, woodcut tailpieces, contemporary limp vellum

A treatise on the price of mercury and its effect on the production of silver in the mines of New Spain, written by the chief mining agent for the Spanish Crown. Fabry sought to demonstrate that a lower price for mercury (subject to a government monopoly and essential for producing silver) would increase the yields from silver mining.
