For the 1984 Kips Bay Show House, Mario Buatta created what was arguably his most successful bedroom ever, and the reaction was staggering - Architectural Digest called it 'the bedroom that shook the world', and the journalist Chauncey Howell created history by inventing a new title for Mario Buatta that would ensure his status in the design pantheon - The Prince of Chintz. As the editor of House Beautiful Margaret Kennedy observed, 'at the height of America's obsession with English country style, Mario's interpretation was the best.'
