earthenware with coloured slips

Executed circa 1928.

Acquired directly from the Artist by Doris Jewson in the late 1920s, and thence by descent to the previous owner

Their sale, Bonhams London, 20th March 2007, lot 43, where acquired by the present owner

Doris Jewson was a weaver who ran a pioneering craft shop in Norwich. Having participated in a weaving course at the artists' community in Ditchling, she knew many of the leading artists and craft makers of the day, including Eric Gill and Bernard Leach.
