Born in Hanoi, Duy established his name as a talented artist during the Doi Moi period when Vietnam underwent dramatic economic and social change. His works are executed in muted, almost monochromatic palettes on “dzo” paper. A Glance and A Private Moment reveals the artist gift as a draftsman and mastery of chiaroscuro. By carefully contouring the slender, backs of nude figures, Duy suggests the sitter’s calm and state of reflection. The artist effortlessly captures the beautiful femininity of his sitters.
