The present carving is rare for its combination of subject matter. The double gourd is a symbol of male progeny, while the katydid is a homonym for 'brother', and together they convey the auspicious meaning of wishing one to have more than one son. A white jade 'double gourd' pendant attributed to the Qianlong period, but with a bat, was exhibited in 80th Anniversary Exhibition of Chinese Jades from Han to Qing, S. Marchant & Son, London, 2005, cat. no. 43. See also a 'double gourd' white jade pendant attributed to the 18th century, sold at Christie's New York, 20th September 2005, lot 18.

參考一相類乾隆白玉瓜藤瑞蝠珮,曾展於《80th Anniversary Exhibition of Chinese Jades from Han to Qing》,S.
