FOUR WOODBLOCK PRINTS

EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)


Each woodblock print, from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road (Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi), signed Hiroshige ga, the first print published by Tsuruya Kiemon (Senkakudo), the second, third and fourth prints published by Takenouchi Magohachi (Hoeido), circa 1833–34, comprising:

- Fujieda: Changing Porters and Horses (Fujieda, jinba tsugitate)

- Narumi: Famous Arimatsu Tie-dyed Fabric (Narumi, meibutsu Arimatsu shibori)

- Miya: Festival of the Atsuta Shrine (Miya, Atsuta shinji)

- Kusatsu: Famous Post House (Kusatsu, meibutsu yateba)

Each a horizontal oban:

The First: 25 x 37 cm., 9 7/8 x 14 5/8 in.

The Second: 24.3 x 37.2 cm., 9 5/8 x 14 5/8 in.

The Third: 24.5 x 36.3 cm., 9 3/4 x 14 1/4 in.

The Fourth: 24.5 x 26 cm., 9 5/8 x 10 1/4 in.

The second print was exhibited at Le Musée National des Arts Asiatiques - Guimet, Paris, July-October 2019
