Best known for his brilliantly colored, stunningly energetic images, LeRoy Neiman was probably the most popular living sports artist in the United States until his passing in 2012. Over the span of his career he has painted such illustrious athletes as Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Joe Namath, Sandy Koufax, Tiger Woods, and of course as is the case in this work, Michael Jordan.
His work has been displayed in the Baseball, Basketball, Football, Boxing and Tennis Halls of Fame. Additionally, Neiman's paintings and drawings are in more than 40 museums around the world, including the Smithsonian, the Chicago Art Institute and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.
This screenprint is signed by both Michael Jordan and LeRoy Neiman, and is numbered 313/320. It is one of only 2 screenprints ever produced by Neiman picturing Michael Jordan and the only one that pictures him exclusively. The work is dated to 1991, which was the year of Michael Jordan’s first of six Bulls NBA Championships.
By the time Michael Jordan retired he was a 6 time NBA champion, a 6 time NBA Finals MVP, a 5 time NBA Most Valuable Player, a 14 time All-Star, a 3 time NBA All-Star Game MVP, a 10 time scoring champion, and a 2 time Slam Dunk Contest Champion. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, among the highest civilian awards in the United States.
