The reference 16550 is a highly coveted Rolex model which was in production from approximately 1985 to 1989. Like its predecessor, the present model was designed for explorers who spent long hours in places where differentiating daytime from nighttime is difficult. Considered a transitional model, as it was only available for four short years, the watch features a 24-hour bezel with luminous big arrow hands. The watch was given the nickname "panna dial" which translates to cream in Italian, because many examples of the 16550 with original white dial have turned into cream colour over time due to a deficit paint Rolex had used at the time. Whilst many of the 16550 were identified with a cream “Rail Dial”, collectors have discovered four variation of dials that are original to the case. The present watch with a special "T SWISS < 25 T" marking at 6 o'clock is a very unusual and highly coveted piece to appear in the secondary market. More scarce than “Rail Dial”, the present watch with original bezel and bracelet has been kept in fabulous condition over the years.
