The GMT being one of Rolex’s most iconic models ever made was a watch delivered for aviation purposes as the door to the commercial aviation industry began to open in the late 1950s. The present watch being part of the GMT series is a reference 1675 encased in a rare 18k yellow gold that is not normally seen in all of Rolex’s production at the time. As the GMT was specifically built for aviation purposes it was a model better suited with the use of precious-metal in comparison to other tool watches such as the Submariners which were made for diving.

Nicknamed the nipple dial by collectors as the watch is fitted with an unusual dial that has a slight protruding hour marker of precious materials, these dials can usually be found in black, brown, or blue colour.

Being a historically significant watch that marks the blossoming of the aviation industry, this GMT, especially in yellow gold with nipple dial, is a highly sought-after example in the realm of vintage collecting. The present example is complete with its original accessories and it is believed that the original owner was a pilot and he often wore this watch while flying.
