Born in Denmark 1942, Svend Andersen is a renowned independent watchmaker known for his excellent craftsmanship and complexity. Launching his own workshop in the late 1970s, Andersen continued as a brand developing complications such as the present Secular Perpetual Calendar.
The Gregorian Calendar that we use today was introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, in an effort to improve accuracy upon the Julian Calendar. Furthermore to the leap year system which adds one day to every year divisible by 4, Pope Gregory XIII also introduced the secular leap year system. For every century year ending in "00", those years that are not divisible by 400 would be considered a secular leap year, in which the regular leap day would not apply. This calibration is introduced to track our Earthly rotation more accurately with the calendar. Our next secular leap year will be the year 2100, which has only 28 days in February. The present Andersen Secular Perpetual Calendar takes this calculation into account, and will display the correct perpetual calendar date for the next 400, and even 800 years to come.
