While oil lamps in the form of animals and birds were popular in the Tang dynasty, those modelled as fish are rare, and only one related example, in the Art Institute of Chicago, accession no. 1964.1073, appears to be known.
Compare also two oil lamps in the form of ducks, one excavated in Gongyi city, Henan province, the other from the collection of the Chang Foundation, Taipei, both illustrated in Zhongguo gu ciyao daxi. Zhongguo Gongyi yao/Series of China’s Ancient Porcelain Kiln Sites. Gongyi Kiln of China, Beijing, 2011, the former pp. 191f., 249, 317 and 441, the latter p. 334.
