These plates are from a service, delivered in tranches through the marchand mercier Lazare Duvaux, see Courajod, L., Livre-journal de Lazare Duvaux, marchand-bijoutier ordinaire du roy, 1748-1758 Précédé d'une étude sur le gout et sur le commerce des objets d'art au milieu du 18e siècle., Paris, 1873, nos. 3068, 3284. As a diplomatic gift it was delivered to François-Joachim de Pierre, abbé-comte de Bernis, Minister of Foreign Affairs and later cardinal de Bernis and French ambassador to Rome, the service arrived in Copenhagen 25 April 1758 where it was received on behalf of his majesty the king by M. le comte de Wedelfryes, Danish Envoy-Extraordinaire.
