Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-1885) was an inventive ébèniste working in a variety of styles at his workshop of rue Saint-Sebastién. By 1870 he had an operation of about 600 employees, producing not only furniture but also small objects such as games boxes, jewellery caskets and liqueur cabinets.
While many of his contemporary ébènistes were producing Louis XV and XVI revival style pieces, Diehl always seek originality creating pieces in néo-grec style and exhibited in all major international exhibitions, starting with the Great Exhibition of 1851, and winning many prestigious medals.
