Templon, Paris-Brussels

Born in 1975 in Mazamet, in the south of France, Abdelkader

Benchamma is known for his black and white drawings,

sometimes mannerist, sometimes gestural. Nourished

by literature, philosophy, astrophysics and esotericism,

his environments implement visual scenarios probing the

frontiers of the invisible.

In this work with its soft and mineral palette, whose format

accentuates the organic aspect, the material seems ready

to escape from the frame. For the past fifteen years or so,

the artist has been imagining enigmatic and immersive

installations overflowing from the confined space of the

sheet to better immerse us in a vortex inspired by science,

literature and art history.

Né en 1975 à Mazamet (France), Abdelkader Benchamma

vit et travaille à Paris et Montpellier.

Benchamma a choisi le dessin noir et blanc comme medium

de prédilection. Variant les approches graphiques, il aborde

tantôt la feuille d’un trait minutieux de graveur tantôt le mur

d’un geste généreux qui s’approprie l’espace.

La matière s’évade du cadre dans une croissance organique.

Nourris de littérature, de philosophie, d’astrophysique,

de réflexions ésotériques, ses environnements mettent

en oeuvre des scénarios visuels qui questionnent

notre rapport au réel sondant les frontières avec l’invisible.
