AN IMPRESSIVE SHAKUDO CABINET, SIGNED HATTORI AND NOGAWA STUDIO MARK

MEIJI PERIOD, LATE 19TH CENTURY


a fine cabinet with two doors opening to reveal various sized drawers and slightly domed top, inlaid in gold, silver, copper and shakudo on a shakudo ground, the doors with wisteria and chrysanthemums and elegant cherry blossom hasp and hinges decorated with butterflies, the top with numerous butterflies and moths, loop handle decorated with vine inset into chrysanthemum kanemono, the drawers with chrysanthemums knops to the centre of each and various decorations including eaglets, birds and flowers, the interior of the doors with Mount Fuji and Lake Biwa
