MEIJI PERIOD, LATE 19TH CENTURY


the rectangular box with close fitting cover and indented corners, decorated in gold and black hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, hirame, gold foil and nashiji on a kinji ground, the cover depicting a thatched building in hilly landscape and cherry blossoms beside a lake, the design continuing onto the sides, the interior with a tray, depicting a pavilion in a craggy mountainous landscape beside a swirling river beneath maple trees, silver rims, with a red pot seal
