12mo (179 x 115 mm). Hinges weak, but internally quite clean and unspotted. Original brown cloth ruled and decorated in blind; corners bumped, some wear at ends. Half morocco slipcase.
First edition of Hawthorne's famed gothic novel, an influence on H.P. Lovecraft's later tales of a cursed New England, a weaving tale of a declining family trapped amid the haunted architecture of their dilapidated home.
