Le noir is a dynamic example of Salvador Corratgé's accomplished concrete abstraction. Corratgé was a founding member of the influential Cuban group 10 Pintores Concretos (1959-1961), who sought a universal, utopian aesthetic that paralleled developments in hard-edge geometric abstraction and early Minimalism in the United States.
