“The chief interest of El Hanani’s drawings lies in the micrographic plane, in the tiny but discrete images out of which the abstract pattern is ‘woven’. The ‘cartoon’ is in the mind of the artist- from forty years of graphic experience, he knows, intuitively how the pattern will look when the drawing is finished”
(Arthur C. Danto, Small Wonders: The Art of Jacob El Hanani, Acquavella Galleries, New York 2015, p. 10)
