A precursor memoir volume to the eventual 1985 publication of The Fringes of Power, which presented Colville’s extraordinary unpublished diaries in full. This copy has been inscribed and signed in ink on the front free endpaper: "For Ian, With affection and a great many thanks for a great deal of help from Jock Colville 25 March 1981." In all likelihood, this was Lt. General Sir Ian Jacob, who as a young Colonel served Churchill as Military Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet, working closely and directly with Churchill (and Colville) throughout the war.
