Fakhr-al-Din Abi 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn 'Umar ibn Husain ibn al-Khatib al-Razi (1150-1209 AD), was born in Rayy and worked in both Rayy and Herat. He was a scholar-encyclopedist and author of many philosophical, historical, astrological, theological and mystical treatises. The Hada'iq al-anwar fi haqa'iq al-asrar is an extension and re-work of his famous Jami al-‘ulum ('Collection of Sciences'). The treatise is divided into sixty chapters dedicated to Khwarizmshah ‘Ala al-Din Muhammad (r.1200-20 AD). The Hadaiq was a later and more detailed version of the Jami al-‘ulum, with additional attention given to geometry and mathematics. Several copies recorded in Rosenfeld & Ihsanoglu mention specifically chapters dedicated to geometry (see Rosenfeld & Ihsanoglu 2003, entry 535 and Brockelmann, GAL, I. 666-9).
