For related examples with the dragon-like motifs bracketing the central medallions, see Christie’s New York 23 June 2006, lot 199, with trefoil border, and a rug once in the collections of F.R. Martin and C.J. Lamm, illustrated Hali 44, April 1989, pp.72-3, (Sailer advertisement), with a cartouche border. The present example has possibly unique crab-like motifs between the medallions rather than the shaped red cartouches typical of this group; the camels in the lower field are also a rare, and charming feature.
